Chinese President Hu Jintao and North Korean leader Kim Jong-il held talks Friday afternoon, exchanging ideas on bilateral relations and regional issues of mutual concern.
Before their meeting, Hu Jintao visited the Kumsusan Memorial Palace and paid respect to late North Korean leader Kim Il-Sung.
The Chinese President arrived in Pyongyang on Friday, starting his three-day official goodwill visit.
The visit by Hu Jintao, also General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, was initiated by an invitation from Kim Jong-il. At the airport, Hu Jintao was greeted by Kim Jong-il, General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and Chairman of the National Defence Commission.
In a written statement delivered upon his arrival at the airport, Hu Jintao spoke highly of the North’s achievements in the past years under the WPK’s leadership.
He also voiced his belief that under Kim’s leadership, the North Korean people will see greater accomplishments on a path of development suited to its own conditions and will build a strong and prosperous country.
