A brazen daytime jewelry store robbery was caught on tape at Pearlridge and has police turning to the public for help in catching the thieves. Cathay Kai Jewelry at Pearlridge Shopping Center has been in business for more than 30 years.
The company has had thefts before, but this is the first time someone used a baby stroller to haul off an entire jewelry case, workers said. It happened on Sept. 29.
“Everybody was shocked,” said Kathy Hsiung, of Cathay Kai Jewelry. “When the camera turned back, we saw the man physically taking the case down into the stroller.”
The culprit made off with 144 pieces of jewelry, including Hawaiian style pendants and earrings, worker said.
The store’s owner said surveillance video shows a woman and a child who distracted the clerk while a man rolled the jewelry case out of the store.

“We hope they find these people and we hope to recover some of our items,” Hsiung said.
Police said they will be checking pawnshops and swap meets for the stolen merchandise.
Police asked anyone who has information in the case to call CrimeStoppers at 955-8300.
