I’ve been waiting a long time to see someone work up a diesel electric hybrid car, and it looks like someone finally did. I don’t care if it looks like a white golf shoe from the seventies, I think it’s kinda cool. And at today’s gas prices 230 miles per gallon at 55 MPH sounds alright to me.
Having made a few batches of biodiesel in a blender and run some motors on it, and having tried the glycerin it makes as soap, I can tell you that a car like this will keep you in soap for a good while if you make your own fuel. And don’t forget, it’s carbon neutral if you do, which some folks think is the new Nirvana, the ex muslim’s word for paradise. But let me put it this way, if we could make an SUV Shoe like this, maybe call it a Boot, our friend driving in those convoys in Iraq would be able to come home and never leave his blender or his barbecue. Unlesss it was to pick up more fried chitlins. We’d have chitlin’s wars, cause that’s the oil everyone would be fighting over.
Anyway, these giant white pollywog sorta smiley cars are slated to be priced at around 20 grand, which is more than an 87 Ford Festiva, but really, when you consider the mileage, not that much more. Diesel Electric has some impressive advantages from where I sit, and I’d like one so I can play golf like it’s 1973. Will my clubs fit in it? I don’t care, golf’s too frustrating anyway.
