A woman who police said was threatening passers-by Thursday with two meat cleavers in Waipahu is facing charges of making terroristic threats.
Officials said police were called to the parking garage of an apartment building on Kahua-moku Street at about 1:30 p.m. Officers said they found the woman, described only as being in her 40s, armed with the two meat cleavers and threatening people — especially one man.
“She directed herself toward the officers. So, they tried to disarm her, and she went toward (one of) the officer(s). So, one shot was fired,” said Maj. Debora Tandal of the Honolulu Police Department.
The shot fired by police missed the woman, but officers were able to subdue her after that, authorities said.
No injuries were reported.
