I didn’t have much time for anything on this trip. I was here to finally sell my beloved Vanagon. I’d thought that maybe I would ship her to Hawaii but instead she sat at my relative’s slowly degrading over the past 3.5 years. To be honest, if I lived on the Big Island it would be great to have a camper van but on Oahu – it’s rarely more than an hour to drive home from anywhere. Selling the Vanagon took up most of the time I had in the Bay Area – first getting her back into running shape, then fielding inquiries, and finally selling her and making sure the new owner (who I absolutely love and am stoked to be handing off Misefrou to) knew all the ins and outs. In the process, I got to have a little bit of family time and enjoy the area south of Silicon Valley Proper. It was only on the last day on the North American continent that I had any time at all to go see places I wanted to and most of that was closed or extremely limited – so I’m going to mix and match a few different trips that this trip should have been.

Santa Cruz – The boardwalk didn’t look like this on my covid trip! These two pictures are from a trip back in 2018. Still, Santa Cruz is more than the boardwalk…like the mainland capital of surf culture.
